A life balance wheel has 8 sections. These 8 sections represent the 8 different areas in one’s life. As soon as one of these areas of one’s life is fuller than the others, the wheel is unbalanced. The wheel is a representation of your life. This means that if you are interested in having a holistic and fulfilling life, your ultimate goal is to have your life balance wheel completely balanced.

For example, people whose work section is at its ultimate usually tend to have less than perfect health, family, and personal growth sections. This is an example, but an incredibly common one. This is unfortunate and this is why there are life coaches. Life coaches help you to find fulfillment in your life by living at your optimal. Living in your optimal is having as much of a balance in your life balance wheel as possible. This is a progressive objective.

This means you should not be hard on yourself if you find that you score higher in some sections than in others. This is extremely common and is fixable. You just have to want to have balance in your life badly enough to go out and actually do things that will help you get there.

Working with a life coach for this is a perfect example of this. You also have to be willing to help yourself achieve these goals.

The 8 sections of a life balance wheel:

  1. Work- Your profession; career.
  2. Money- Income; investments, retirement funds, etc.
  3. Living environment- Your material things, your residence, vehicle, office, etc.
  4. Personal growth- Anything and everything that you do and learn to improve who you are as a person.
  5. Health and recreation- Everything you do for self-care and relaxation.
  6. Community- Your friends, social life, community/volunteer organizations and involvement, etc.
  7. Family- Married/ single, dating relationship, children, extended family, siblings, etc.
  8. God- Your spiritual life, religious life, worship.

Now that you know the 8 sections of the life balance wheel, go ahead and assess yourself. Rank your satisfaction with each of these sections of your life from 1 to 10. What stands out to you as you see these different rankings? Which areas are you most motivated to work on that would make you feel more complete, fulfilled, satisfied, happy?
