Thank you for a great question! Support groups are a great tool to have and focus on a variety of issues and life circumstances. However, there are distinct differences between a support group and a life and executive coach. The relationship with a coach is private and one on one. It is focused on the client's development and personal and professional growth. In that sense it is very different to a support group.

Would you consider a support group to be more beneficial than a life coach or do they serve too different purposes?

Hard to teach yourself self discipline when you're not.

As you suggest, leading a fulfilling life is not necessarily easy. Numerous surveys show that more people than ever are unhappy in their jobs, and many have little sense of a life purpose. Far too many people are simply “going through the motions,” living mundane lives without much passion. IMHO, the best way to find fulfillment is to spend your time and energies engaged in activities that fit very well with your life’s purpose. When we use our gifts and talents in accordance with our Calling, or our life’s purpose, we will find meaning, energy, passion and even joy. In fact, many people who spend their life energies in work activities that fit very well with their design (personality, values, energizing strengths, and vocational interests) and that match their life’s purpose, have a difficult time distinguishing between work and play…not a bad place to be!
