Almost Free Advertising

Almost Free Advertising

By Keith Lee

I’m going to talk about my “almost free advertising” here, but remember, whenever I talk about my marketing, advertising and sales, you should be thinking about how you can use the same ideas in your business.

Anyone with email knows that spam is a pain.  With that said, email advertising is still effective and almost free!  It is especially effective when you send emails to existing clients who are expecting it.

It’s even more effective if you don’t simply try to sell them something every time you email.  Sure your existing clients will be interested in saving money on your products but – Can you also give them another reason to read your email?  Can you make it something they look forward to getting?

OK, you’re probably not going to send them a marketing tip of the week if you’re a hardware store – maybe you send them a “homeowner’s tip of the week”.  Or if you’re a pet shop maybe it’s a “pet owners tip of the week”.  I’m sure you can think of something.

I hope you look forward to my marketing tip of the week.  I love marketing and spend almost all of my working day on it… Sure, one reason I want the marketing tip to help you is – I’m a nice guy – but there’s more.  The more successful you are the better chance I have of selling you more fixtures, packaging, computer products and everything else you need to run your store.

So how do you get an email list?  Ask your clients for their email addresses and tell them about the great ideas you’ll be sending them.  Print up one of your great “Homeowners Tip of the Week” and display it in your store.  Tell your customers they can get these tips every week.

Also – Be honest with your customers!  Tell them email advertising is almost free – no printing costs – no mailing costs – no air-time cost.  And since it’s almost free you can pass on the savings to them with Email Only Specials.  That’s what you get every week in this email from TMS.  Since we don’t have printing costs, postage costs, booth costs…In other words since it’s almost free advertising our email specials in the marketing tip of the week are only available via email.

So start collecting those email addresses and start you email marketing today!
