Here is a list of the most commonly asked questions regarding coaching for lawyers.
1. Who hires a coach for lawyers?
Lawyers that hire a coach are people who are ready to make a change in their life, push themselves to obtain success, balance, and a multitude of goals. 2. How is coaching different from therapy? Consulting? A friend?
An executive life coach helps you find answers within yourself, set goals, and determine the best path to achieving them. A coach holds you accountable, stretches you beyond your comfort level, helps you strengthen your skills, and supports you with no judgment. A coach is not a therapist or consultant. Coaches focuses on where you are in your life right now and where you want to be and helps you in getting there. Learn more about the differences between counseling and coaching.
3. How do Lawyers Benefit from Coaching?
Motivation- Many times in life, we know what we want to do. However, we don’t get ourselves to move towards that goal. Working with a coach enables you to stretch beyond your comfort zone and move towards your goals. Watch this video to learn more about the power of motivation.
Accountability- It’s very easy and very common for people to live their lives unsatisfied with their business, jobs, and family life. While these people may have ideas of how they could change their life to make it better, they become paralyzed by their schedule, routines, etc. I hold you accountable to making decisions, changes, and quantum leaps in your life and profession.
Introspection- As lawyers, we are frequently stuck in the rat-race working 10 to 12 hours a day. It’s no wonder so many of us don’t truly know what we want out of life. Western Society does not give much value to introspection. As a result, many people come to find out their values and goals much later in life. Don’t let this be you. Don’t be another one of the thousands of people currently living an unfulfilled, unsatisfying life. A coach helps you get to know yourself, your values, and your goals and to achieve a life and career that is a reflection of them.
Goal Setting- Many people live years without knowing their values or goals; while others are aware of them but do not work towards them. They may know their goals but don’t quantify them or measure them. This is why so many people don’t move forward with their goals by developing action plans to achieve them. A coach helps you to determine your goals in life and business and to set specific, personalized steps to achieving those goals.

4. What if I need help with both my personal and business life?
The key to living a fulfilled life is balance in each of the segments of your life. At Time for Life, our coaches take a comprehensive approach to each client. This means that when you work with one of our coaches, the coach will help you achieve goals in both your personal and your professional life and all of the segments involved in each. When you hire a coach, he or she acts as an executive coach, business coach, life coach, and personal development coach to you. After all, there are many pieces to the pie that is your life: work/business, family, spirituality, health, personal growth, and much more. We take an 8 point approach (vide0) when we coach our clients.
5. How do I get started?
Schedule a free 15 minute life coaching session. During this first session, we will discuss goal setting and any specific issue you would like to address. You will get to know my style of coaching, will be able to ask any question, and will have the opportunity to decide if you are ready to make a change in your life and take the next step to achieving it.
6. How long should I work with a Coach?
Coaching sessions are generally held for 45 minutes once, twice, or four times a month. On average, lawyers begin the coaching sessions for a 6-month period. Many people continue with the coaching and either remain on the two-sessions a month program or add more sessions. You and your coach will intuitively know when it is time to conclude, edit, or pause the sessions.
7. Can I hire a Coach for a specific project or goal?
Yes. Some lawyers actually hire a coach to assist them in achieving a specific goal or change in their life or accomplishing a project. These clients tend to continue working with the coach long after they’ve succeeded with their goal or project because they are even more motivated to make leaps in their life.
8. What can I get from coaching that I can’t get from self-help books?
While business and self-help books provide a volume of great and useful information to learn to prepare for success, they cannot hold you accountable for applying what you learned, specifying measurable goals, and creating a strategy to achieving those goals. Without the commitment to daily application of new strategies, ideas, and behavior, there is very, very limited room for growth and real change.
A book is also not able to act as a mirror to reflect your ingrained and sometimes unconscious patterns of behaviors, thoughts, and ideas that shape your daily actions to create the outcomes in your life. A coach for lawyers reflects these things to you and guides you to re-frame the experiences and thoughts of your past to establish new, more positive perspectives on current and future opportunities.
